Ingersoll Locks Ltd  was incorporated as a British company in 1940.
It was originally the lock manufacturing division of The Ingersoll Watch Co.


Ingersoll Locks initially manufactured padlocks which were well received in the market place.
With modifications the famous 'Impregnable' high security padlock range was launched.


The Impregnable's reputation was so impressive, it was used to
secure American nuclear missile silos.


During World War II, Ingersoll's factory was seconded to produce
parts for the Supermarine Spitfire.


In 1950 Ingersoll launched the D20 Ten lever nightlatch.


 In 1951 Ingersoll Locks not only exhibited at the Festival of Britain but also
provided the locks for the exhibition.


In 1969 the famous SC71 nightlatch was launched and has now sold more
than 2,000,000 units in the UK alone.


1979 saw the launch of the NS80 which later recived British Standard Certification
BS3621 for theft resistant locks.
This was the first ever nightlatch to receive BS certification.
